Savings

Imagine 60-80% of your businesses Domestic Hot Water load being produced by clean, renewable solar energy! Your bills will go down while your image heads upward. And if you are on a baseline gas schedule, a solar water heater attacks the most expensive gas that you purchase: above baseline usage.

With a 30% Federal Tax Credit and depreciation of the system, the ROI numbers are up there with any great investment. The solar system will pay for itself several times over the estimated 25-year life of the system.

Title 24 (California) & LEED Certification

A solar domestic water heating system will help your commercial project pass the energy audit required for Title 24 and allow you more freedom in the building's design. This is because solar water heating provides huge Title 24 credits. Solar water heating will also help your project to pass the LEED requirements for a commercial project.

Funding

With the appropriate financing you could be cash positive from the beginning. Large projects may also qualify for a solar equipment lease. In a solar equipment lease, or Power Purchase Agreement, the upfront capital is provided by a third-party financer who provides the solar energy to the business owner at a rate lower than PG&E. How it Works

  • Solar heat is absorbed by solar "collectors" placed on the roof, shade structure or other location in the sun.
  • The solar heat is delivered to a solar storage tank by a low-energy circulator.
  • When hot water is needed for the facility, the solar hot water in the solar storage tank feeds the water heater.
  • When fed with the solar hot water, the water heater either doesn't come on at all or comes on for a fraction of the time that it would without a solar hot water system.
  • At the end of the month, the savings are seen in your gas usage.
